Is the frequency enough- I see a lot of people avoiding it because of the wait-sometimes more than 15 mins. They should increase the plying frequency at peak hours-we know ppl travel to work at 10 and back at 5.

Well, the BPO system does have its problems, as we poor consumers have been learning through grappling with the short end of the stick. Airtel though, takes the cake. I am an airtel subscriber and have given up calling the helpline numbers, and after months of high blood pressure, wasted conversations and time, decided that its simpler to disconnect the landline! And I have heard similar stories from other friends. Just as an example, here is another one, I had to personnaly visit an airtel kiosk one day where a gentleman quite obviously from the South of the country and travelling through this part, was trying to explaint to the man behind the counter, that simplygetting through to the correct dept. at airtel takes ages and hence escalated call costs whem one is on roaming and got a pat reply from the unprofessional airtel chap -' well who's stopping you from going to another phone company'! Talk about unprofessionalism and exasperation. If at that point, I had a spare shoe, I would have gladly flung it at the idiot - in line with the recent spate of journalistic modes of protest. But to be honest, not sure if airtel would have bothered about that either!

Interesting article. Having recently made a trip to Shimla and keeping in mind an idea re 'owning a small summer cottage in the hills', been exploring the property sections of the news dailies. Just yesterday's HT estate section dealt with Shimla and the infrastructure/service access, problems faced by the city. Something to keep in mind, while looking at the urban development sector in North India. I recently discovered your blog while googling re Shimla a few weeks ago. Enjoy browsing the articles and am adding it to the blog list in one of my blogs. Keep writing, and good luck with HimVani.
Cheers.

good to hear that there was some sort of reunion in GCE, but i couldn't understand whether you are praising it or making fun out of it.....?OR lets say i should be proud of or just forget it as it is........?

after having gained 25 years of exprience in technical education GCE is still a dilapidated honted structure if not a college... it would be great if , in case, they raise the alumni annual fund (hope poor students are not forced to search their pockets for this too..), there are tons of initiative that has to be taken, that too long ago.....

the college misses even the basic requirements, that's because of the murky management and loose resources it is entertaining.

anyway, that's non of my business but please don't simply call it a PILGRIMAGE at all.

his is indeed a very good initiative and I pray for the success of Karsog farmers.

Farming in India is totally in clutches of aartiyas or middlemen. Farmer hardly gets 5% of the retail value and has to invest back this amount for the next crop. Practically farming is left with no money at all.

This is ironic that a farmer has no say at all to sell his produce. A soap manufacturer fixes a MRP of 10/- for his product and after deducting his cost and adding his profit sells it to the retailer for say 7/- but this never happens with a farmer in the supply chain.

Farming has become a loss making proposition today with costly inputs and very less returns. On the other hand the middlemen made money on farmer’s expense. To quote an example, the new generation of apple traders in Azadpur mandi in Delhi have made huge investements in reality sector and are big players in the builder industry.

How come the middlemen became richer and richer and the farmers are moving away from there land!!

Apart from the third day supply of water there was no major problem in Shimla this summer season. Yes the problem is more severe in New Shimla and other SADA areas. These areas no doubt have wider roads but water supply is pathetic. Trust the goras who laid foundations of the water supply system in main city area and this has been working ok till now where as in new areas because of lack of proper planning water distribution is in mess.

Anyway, weather god has been kind this summer season and its been raining almost daily and keeping the water sources full with water. Most of the water is lost in transit to the main water storage tanks in the city. Well, if all was well how would the IPH deptt. would justify its existance!!
